Pinnacle Technology Group supply Super Wireless High Speed Broadband service for Cheltenham

Pinnacle Technology Group plc, (AIM: PINN) the AIM listed provider of cloud based technology solutions, is pleased to announce that it is testing a new high speed wireless broadband technology, which will deliver speeds up to 100Mb in the Cheltenham area over the next two weeks.

Transmitters will be sited in the city centre and out towards the Racecourse, where tests will be run to identify where the new service can be offered. The service is being installed by Pinnacle whose customers include the BBC for outside broadcast connectivity and Cheltenham Festivals for connectivity and Wi-Fi.

The backbone for the test Wi-Fi services will be provided from the network already installed by Pinnacle for The Times Cheltenham Literature Festival, where free Wi-Fi is being offered to visitors and guests.

Earlier testing was completed in 2011, so there is confidence in the trial being successful. Pinnacle has also provided services at the Cheltenham Jazz, Science and Music Festivals earlier this year.

Subject to the results and levels of interest, the service is expected to be launched in early 2013, offering businesses in the area private data links ranging in speed from 20Mb up to 100Mb, with options for home offices and domestic use. More typical speeds will be between 10Mb and 30Mb, with equipment to allow multiple users to work at a single site, being supplied as part of a standard package.

If the test is successful, the new Cheltenham area service will use high capacity fibre links to the Internet, allowing businesses and homes across the city to be connected in a variety of ways. Customers close to a main transmitter will be able to log onto the system direct from a computer, tablet, smartphone or other device. Others will be able to connect using a small receiver, making it possible to use the service at up to 5 miles from a base station.

Businesses and homes close to the city centre or Cheltenham racecourse will be able to test the service by selecting the wireless network "Pinnacle Cheltenham Test". Further information can be found at http://www.pinnacletechnology.co.uk/wireless/cheltenham/

Martin Stephenson, Head of Special Projects at Pinnacle Technology Group plc, who is leading the project, said "All businesses and most homes need good quality broadband, but at the moment this is still not available across the UK. The system being installed by Pinnacle will deliver super high speeds via wireless at very competitive rates. Speeds previously only available via a fibre connection will be possible, and for some outlying villages within range of our service, it will bring quality broadband where there is currently only a very poor speed or no service at all."

Highlighting the current coverage problems in the UK, Harry Cotterell, president of The Country Land and Business Association ("CLA") said recently "It is unlikely the government's objective for Britain to have the best broadband network in Europe by 2015 will be realised. The CLA advocates a 'patchwork quilt' model whereby other technologies, such as Wi-Fi and satellite, become widely available and used."
