Appointment of New Non-Executive Director

The Board of The City of London Investment Trust plc is pleased to announce the appointment of Philip Remnant as a non-executive Director with effect from 1 January 2011.

Philip Remnant is a Senior Advisor to the investment banking division of Credit Suisse in Europe, having previously been a Vice Chairman of CSFB Europe and Head of the UK Investment Banking Department.  He is also Chairman of the Shareholder Executive and a Director of UK Financial Investments.  He was Director General of the Takeover Panel from 2001 to 2003 and again in 2010.

It is the Board's intention that Philip Remnant will become Chairman of the Company following the retirement of Simon de Zoete at the Annual General Meeting in October 2011.

In accordance with paragraphs 9.6.13 (1) to (6) of the Listing Rules, it is confirmed that there are no additional details to be disclosed in relation to Philip Remnant.
