               The Character Group plc (the 'Group' or 'Company')

                           Transaction in Own Shares


The directors of The Character Group plc announce that, as part of the Group's
policy of buying back Group shares, a further 43,768 shares have been purchased
today in the market through Charles Stanley Securities for treasury at a price
of 88.76 pence per share.  This represents approximately 0.103% of the issued
share capital of the Company (excluding shares held in treasury).

Following these transactions, the Company has 42,552,953 ordinary shares in
issue (excluding 2,938,984 ordinary shares in the Company held in treasury).
