                     Appointment of non-executive Director


The Directors of Centamin are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Thomas
Gee Elder to the Board of Centamin as a non-executive Director, with effect from
8 May 2002.

Mr Elder, aged 62 and UK based, brings a wealth of experience to the Company and
is currently President and Director of Mano River Resources and a non-executive
director of Gold Mines of Sardinia Limited. He is a graduate geologist who has
been involved with companies such as BP Minerals, Rio Tinto and Cominco.

Mr Elder's directorships, current and within the last 5 years, are set out here:

Executive Director and CEO, Mano River Resources Inc., June 1999 to present

Non-executive Director, Gold Mines of Sardinia Limited, May 2001 to present

Director, Carpathian Gold Limited, 1995 to 1998

Director, St Michael's Residents Company Limited, 1994 to present.

There are no further details to be disclosed regarding Mr Elder under Schedule 2
(f) (iii)-(viii) of the AIM Rules.
