Catlin Group Limited ('the Company') has received notification from The Goldman
Sachs Group, Inc. as follows:

1. As of the close of business on 26 April 2005, Goldman Sachs International, 
   an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc., was
   interested, as beneficial owner, in 1,177,954 shares represented by 
   depositary instruments, and as legal and beneficial owner, in 4,400,000 
   shares, in the Company. This represents 3.62% of the votes of the Company 
   and 3.62% of the share capital.

2. As of the close of business on 27 April 2005, Goldman Sachs International no
   longer had a disclosable interest in the shares of the Company.
