                      NOTIFICATION OF INTEREST IN SHARES                      

The Board of Carr's Milling Industries PLC (the 'Company') was notified on 7
September 2000, in accordance with the provisions of sections 198-202 of the
Companies Act 1985, that as a result of a sale of 125,000 ordinary shares of
25p each in the Company, Value and Income Trust plc has an interest in 250,000
shares in the Company, representing 3.13 per cent. of the issued ordinary
share capital.  The shareholding is registered as follows:
