Carillion PLC 24 October 2003 24 October 2003 Carillion statement re Network Rail announcement Carillion notes this morning's announcement by Network Rail concerning its intention to take rail maintenance work in-house by September 2004. Carillion bought its rail maintenance business from the Government in 1996 and has successfully built this business to its current turnover of £250 million per annum, a little over 10 per cent of annual Group turnover. Carillion will be seeking urgent talks with Network Rail and the Government to clarify its intentions. In addition to maintenance work for Network Rail, Carillion also carries out rail renewal projects for Network Rail and construction and maintenance work for Union Rail on the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, together worth around £250 million per annum.
