Carillion wins £96m motorway contract for the Highways Agency 




Leading support services company Carillion has won an £96million contract for the Highways Agency to provide Active Traffic Management systems to reduce congestion on the motorway network around Birmingham.


The project, known as the Birmingham Box Active Traffic Management Phases 1 & 2, will involve the installation of gantries, signage, safety fencing and the associated technology to increase the network capacity on sections of motorway around Birmingham. This includes variable speed limits and hard-shoulder running on M6 Junction 4 to Junction 5 and M6 Junction 8 to Junction 10A and variable speed limits on M40 Junction 16 to M42 Junction 3A and M42 Junction 7 to Junction 9.


Work is expected to start in Autumn 2008 and finish in Spring 2011.
