Carillion PLC 26 January 2004 26 January 2004 Carillion awarded first ProCure 21 contract at Rampton Following its selection by the NHS as one of its principle supply chain partners for the £7 billion ProCure 21 programme, Business and Construction Services company Carillion has been awarded its first project under the ProCure 21 framework valued at £18 million. The national High Secure Women's Unit project at Rampton Hospital in Nottinghamshire will provide a dedicated facility for up to 60 women suffering from a range of mental health problems. The Unit will also provide a number of central facilities which will include, therapy, education, sport and leisure. It will be built within the present secure perimeter of the Hospital. Rampton Hospital forms part of Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, and Mr. John Ord, Head of Projects for the Trust, said: 'The ProCure 21 framework underpins the Government's commitment to improving services using better capital procurement through new partnerships with the private sector.' Carillion is one of 12 principal supply chain partners for ProCure 21. Based on partnering and lean construction principles, ProCure 21 comprises two elements: £200m of Diagnostic & Treatment Centres (DTCs) and £7 billion of framework contracts for any capital works over £1 million in value over a five-year period. Once all the necessary approvals have been obtained, work is due to start on the Rampton site in summer 2004 with completion planned for early 2006. It is also currently the preferred bidder on three further hospitals - the Queen Alexandra hospital project in Portsmouth and the William Osler and Royal Ottawa Hospitals, in Ontario, Canada - with a combined value of £1.6 billion. Carillion has also been appointed preferred bidder for its first NHS Primary Care contract worth around £80m for Birmingham & Solihull LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust).
