Carillion PLC 23 December 2002 CARILLION APPOINTED PREFERRED BIDDER FOR MAJOR NEW PPP HOSPITAL DEVELOPMENT IN OXFORD A 50:50 joint venture between Carillion plc and The Royal Bank of Scotland has been appointed preferred bidder by The Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust for the John Radcliffe Site Public Private Partnership project. The project will include the £125 million construction of a new centre for services on the John Radcliffe Hospital site, that will relocate from the Radcliffe Infirmary, and a new Oxford Children's Hospital. Carillion will carry out the construction work, which is expected to start in the summer of 2003, and provide maintenance for the new buildings and facilities management services to the John Radcliffe site. The total value of the project for Carillion is expected to be worth around £600 million over the 30-year concession period. Commenting on the appointment, Carillion Chief Executive John McDonough said, ' We are delighted to have been selected as the preferred bidder for this important project and very much look forward to working with the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust. This will be Carillion's sixth PPP hospital and is a further major step in the development of our healthcare business.'
