SUSPENSION FROM OFFICIAL QUOTATION

The securities of Cairn Energy PLC (the 'Company') have been suspended from
official quotation immediately, on the Australian Stock Exchange, at the request
of the Company.

As stated in the Company's announcement dated 17 April 2000, the Company has
requested that it be removed from the official list of Australian Stock Exchange
Limited.  This removal is expected to occur on 9 May 2000.
