Notification of Shareholding - Companies Act 1985 ss.198-202 (as amended):

On 10 October 2000 Cairn was notified by the AEGON UK plc Group of Companies
('the Group') that, following the sale of 500,000 shares, the Group had an
interest in 5,507,844 Ordinary Shares of 10p each in Cairn, representing 3.74%
of Cairn's present issued ordinary share capital.

The AEGON UK plc Group of Companies means Scottish Equitable plc, Scottish
Equitable (Managed Funds) Limited, Scottish Equitable Fund Management Limited,
Scottish Equitable Asset Management plc, Scottish Equitable Investment
Management Limited, Scottish Equitable Trustees Limited, Guardian Assurance
plc, Guardian Linked Life Assurance Limited, Guardian Pensions Management
Limited and Guardian Unit Managers.

The registered shareholders to which this notification relates and the number
of shares held by each registered holder at the date hereof is as follows:-
