On 28 July 2000 Cairn was notified under Sections 198-202 of the Companies Act
1985 (as amended) that on 27 July 2000 Standard Life Investments sold on
behalf of Standard Life Group 217,000 Ordinary Shares of 10p each in the share
capital of Cairn, reducing its total holding to 4,203,062 Ordinary Shares.  As
a result, it no longer has a notifiable interest in Cairn's current issued
share capital.
