                           CAIRN ENERGY PLC ('Cairn')

                         Directors' Interests in Shares

Cairn announces that certain of its directors have today sold a total of 600,000
ordinary shares at a price of £17.50 per share. In addition, Bill Gammell has
transferred by way of a gift 10,000 ordinary shares to the Scottish Institute of
Sport Foundation, a registered charity of which he is the chairman.

Details of the share sales and transfer and the resulting effect on the
directors' shareholdings are set out below:
