Purchase of Own Securities

Caledonian Trust PLC ('the Company') announces: -



On 5 April 2001, the Company acquired a total of 24,226 of its own Ordinary
Shares as detailed below: -



(i)   The transaction was effected on 5 April 2001

(ii)  The securities acquired were Ordinary Shares of 20p each
      in the capital of the Company.  The shares were purchased by way of an
      off-market transaction at a price of 65.5p per share.

(iii) The shares will be cancelled.

(iv)  Following this buy-back the authorised and issued Ordinary
      Share Capital of the Company will be 12.202,769 Ordinary Shares of 20p    
      each.
