Declaration of dividends

Ordinary shares
Notice is hereby given that final dividend (number 112) of 145 cents per share
has been declared payable to shareholders who are registered in the books of
the Company at the close of business on 15 December 2000.

The transfer books and registers of members will be closed from 18 December
2000 to 22 December 2000, both days inclusive.

The dividend is payable in the currency of the Republic of South Africa and
warrants in payment thereof dated 5 January 2001, will be posted to
shareholders by the Company's transfer secretaries in South Africa and the
United Kingdom on or about 2 January 2001. Payments made by way of electronic
transfer will be made on 5 January 2001.

Shareholders paid from the United Kingdom will receive the United Kingdom
currency equivalent of their dividends (less appropriate taxes), the rate of
exchange being determined on 20 December 2000.

5,5% cumulative preference shares
Notice is hereby given that dividend number 113 at the rate of 5,5% per annum,
equivalent to 5,5 cents per share, in respect of the six months ending 31
December 2000, is payable to holders of the 5,5% cumulative preference shares
registered in the books of the Company at the close of business on 1 December
2000.

The transfer books and register of members will be closed from 4 December 2000
to 8 December 2000, both days inclusive.

The dividend is declared in the currency of the Republic of South Africa and
payment will be made by the Company's transfer secretaries in South Africa and
in the United Kingdom on 1 February 2001.
Shareholders paid from the United Kingdom will receive the United Kingdom
currency equivalent of their dividends (less appropriate taxes), the rate of
exchange being determined on 5 January 2001.
