                     BUNZL APPOINTS NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR


Bunzl plc, the international Group supplying business to business consumables,
is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Jeff Harris as a non-executive
director with immediate effect.  Since 1992 Mr Harris has been Chief Executive
of Alliance UniChem Plc, a leading European distributor and retailer of
medical and healthcare products with 1999 sales in excess of £6 billion.  He
is also a director of ANZAG, a major German pharmaceutical wholesaler.  Mr
Oliver Stocken will be leaving the Bunzl Board also with effect from today.
We thank Oliver for his service and the contribution he has made and welcome
Jeff to the Board.

Commenting on the appointment Anthony Habgood, Chairman of Bunzl, said 'Jeff's
background of running a major international distribution business with its
focus on mainland Europe will bring valuable and relevant experience to Bunzl
particularly as we continue to expand in Outsourcing Services'.
