                 BUNZL EXPANDS OUTSOURCING SERVICES IN THE UK
                                       
Bunzl plc, the international services Group, today announces that it has
further expanded its Outsourcing Services business in the UK through the
acquisition of Brierley-Almond Ltd.

Brierley-Almond, which is based in Manchester, operates throughout the UK and
specialises in the supply of 'goods not for resale' to supermarkets.  Sales
were £50m in the year ended 31 March 1999 and consolidated net assets at
completion are estimated to be £1.5m.  The transaction has been effected by
the acquisition of its holding company, Peter Ward Holdings Limited.

Anthony Habgood, Chairman of Bunzl, said:

'The acquisition of Brierley-Almond complements our growing business with
retailers.  It is a further step towards replicating in Europe our highly
successful outsourcing programme with the North American grocery sector.'
