                               Board Appointment

N Brown Group plc today announces the appointment of John McGuire as a
Non-Executive Director with immediate effect.

John 55, who will Chair the Company's Audit Committee, has had a lifelong career
in banking since the mid 1960's. He is Chairman of Corporate Banking for Royal
Bank of Scotland Group (North of England and Midland regions). John is also Vice
Chairman of the CBI and on the Board of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce and
Industry.

The Board confirms that no other disclosures need to be made under section 6.F.2
(b) to (g) referred to in paragraph 16.4 of the Listing Rules in respect of this
appointment.

'We are delighted that John has agreed to join the Board. His depth of financial
experience will be a tremendous asset to both the Board and the Group as a
whole'.
