Forsee will join the company as Executive Vice President & Chief Staff Officer effective September 1, 1999. In this position, Forsee will be an officer of BellSouth and report to F. Duane Ackerman, Chairman and CEO of BellSouth. Forsee will assume the duties and responsibilities previously performed by Sid Boren, who has announced his retirement at the end of September. In this regard, Forsee will oversee the formulation and implementation of corporate wide policies related to strategic planning, corporate development, certain regulatory and legislative matters, advertising, external and internal communications, and various administrative functions. Prior to joining BellSouth, Forsee was President and Chief Executive Officer of Global One Communications, S.A., headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. Global One is a telecommunications joint venture among Sprint Corporation, Deutsche Telekom, and France Telecom. Previously, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Sprint's long-distance operations. Forsee has over 27 years of telecommunications experience. He began his career with Southwestern Bell and worked for AT&T prior to joining Sprint. 'Gary is a seasnoned telecommunications executive, with extensive background in marketing, operations, and international,' said Ackerman. 'This experience and expertise will be very beneficial to BellSouth as we continue to face the challenges of a dynamic industry.' Forsee earned his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla. BellSouth is a $24 billion communications services company.
