                        BellSouth Introduces New Pricing for

                  BellSouth(R) FastAccess(R) DSL Internet Service


ATLANTA - Jan. 9, 2006 - BellSouth (NYSE: BLS) announced that beginning today,
it will reduce the monthly price of residential FastAccess DSL Xtreme, which
features downstream connection speeds of up to 3Mbps, by $5, to $37.95 per
month. In addition, new residential customers who purchase FastAccess DSL Ultra,
FastAccess DSL Xtreme or FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0 can receive a special offer
of a $50 Visa(R) gift card.

BellSouth's tiered-speed approach to broadband provides customers with a range
of high-speed FastAccess DSL services from which to choose, including:

•  FastAccess DSL Xtreme 6.0, BellSouth's fastest DSL Internet service,
is up to twice as fast as FastAccess DSL Xtreme and up to 100x faster than
standard dial-up. The service features speeds up to 6Mbps downstream by 512Kbps
upstream and is available for $46.95 per month.

•  FastAccess DSL Xtreme, featuring speeds up to 3.0Mbps downstream by
384Kbps upstream, is up to 50x faster than standard dial-up and available (with
the new pricing) for $37.95 per month.

•  FastAccess DSL Ultra features speeds up to 1.5Mbps downstream by
256Kbps upstream, up to 25x faster than standard dial-up, and is available for
$32.95 per month.

•  FastAccess DSL Lite features speeds up to 256Kbps downstream by
128Kbps upstream, up to 5x faster than standard dial-up, and is available for
$24.95 per month.
