BRITISH LAND APPOINTS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS 

British Land has today appointed two new executive directors to its Board.

Stephen Smith joins as Executive Director and Chief Investment Officer. He is currently Global Head of Asset Management at AXA Real Estate Investment Managers SA. 

Charles Maudsley joins as Executive Director with responsibility for Business Expansion. He is currently Co-Head of Europe at LaSalle Investment Management. 

They will join British Land early in the New Year.

Chief Executive, Chris Grigg, said of the appointments: "Stephen and Charles bring enormous property experience and expertise to British Land. They will make a strong contribution to the business and their skills complement those in our highly regarded management team."

Chris Gibson-Smith, Chairman British Land, said: "The UK real estate market has experienced enormous volatility through the last year. Stephen Smith (aged 56) joined AXA Real Estate Investment Managers in 1999 and has been a Director of the firm since 2002. He is responsible for the asset management of a portfolio of more than € 40 billion on behalf of Life Funds, listed property vehicles, unit linked and closed end funds. In the three year period to the end of 2008 he was responsible for transactions totalling more than € 25 billion. He was Managing Director at Sun Life Properties for five years prior to joining AXA.  

Charles Maudsley (aged 45) has more than 24 years' real estate experience having joined LaSalle Investment Management in 2005. Charles has been running the UK operation and is a member of the LaSalle Management Board, the UK and European Investment Committee, and is International Director. Prior to joining LaSalle he was with AXA Real Estate Investment Management for seven years.
