                          Announcement by British Land

The Nominations Committee of The British Land Company PLC has been conducting an
extensive search, with the help of consultants Whitehead Mann, to select a new
Chief Executive.  The Board had identified a suitable candidate and thought that
it had settled detailed terms with him but, very much to the Board's regret, he
yesterday informed us that he had decided to withdraw for reasons not connected
with British Land.  The Nominations Committee has already reinstigated the
search and British Land will make an announcement when the process is complete.
