Pursuant to Section 198 of the Companies Act 1985, British American Tobacco
p.l.c. (the "Company") has been informed, by a letter dated 22 June 2006, that
with reference to the Company's share purchase programme and the consequent
reduction in the number of ordinary shares of 25p in the Company ("the Shares")
in issue, as at 19 June 2006, R & R Holdings SA had a notifiable interest (for
the purposes of Part VI of the Companies Act 1985) in 604,336,627 Shares
representing 29.04% of the issued ordinary share capital of 2,081,403,050
Shares.

R & R Holdings SA is the registered holder of the number of Shares indicated
above.
