As a result of an administrative error, the total number of British American
Tobacco p.l.c. 25p ordinary shares (the "Shares") held by the independent
trustee of the British American Tobacco Group Employee Trust were overstated in
the Company's announcement made on 15 September 2006.

The total number of Shares held by the independent trustee of the British
American Tobacco Group Employee Trust should have been stated in the Company's
announcement made on 15 September 2006 as being 19,872,436.
