The Company was notified on 7 September 2004 by the trustee of the British
American Tobacco Employee Share Ownership Plan that on 6 September 2004 the
following directors had purchased ordinary shares of 25p each in British
American Tobacco p.l.c. (the "Shares") by way of the Partnership Share Scheme at
a price of 843p per Share.
