The Company was notified on 5 July 2005 that on 4 July 2005 Mr N R Withington
acquired 134 British American Tobacco p.l.c. 25p Ordinary Shares (the "Shares")
at a price of 1086p per Share as a result of the quarterly reinvestment of
income by his ISA Manager.



Following this transaction, Mr Withington has a total beneficial and family
interest in 81,826 Shares (including 42,237 Deferred Shares).
