NOTIFICATION OF TRANSACTIONS OF DIRECTORS, PERSONS DISCHARGING MANAGERIAL
RESPONSIBILITY OR CONNECTED PERSONS


Notification made in accordance with Section 324 (as extended by Section 328) of
the Companies Act 1985 and Disclosure Rule 3.14R (1) (a) of the Disclosure Rules
sourcebook.

On 20 September 2005, British American Tobacco p.l.c. ("the Company") was
notified by Ms Ana Maria Llopis, a Non-Executive Director of the Company, that
on 19 September 2005 she had purchased 2,200 Ordinary Shares of 25p in the
Company ("the Shares") at a price of 1187p per Share. The Shares are registered
in the joint names of Felix Yndurain Mu (a connected person) and Ana Maria
Llopis Rivas. Following this transaction, Ms Llopis has a total beneficial and
family interest in 2,200 Shares.
