BP p.l.c. announces that on 19 January 2006, it purchased 3,300,000 ordinary
shares at prices between 654.5 pence and 664.0 pence per share. The purchased
shares will all be held as Treasury shares.

Following the above transaction, BP p.l.c. holds 1,022,867,229 ordinary shares
in Treasury, and has 20,620,224,499 ordinary shares in issue (excluding Treasury
shares).
