SUBDIVISION OF BP AMOCO SHARES TO TAKE EFFECT ON OCTOBER 4, 1999
BP Amoco has announced that, following shareholder approval at its September 1
EGM, the subdivision of each of its US$ 0.50 nominal value ordinary shares
into two US$ 0.25 new ordinary shares will take effect from 0800 London time
on Monday, October 4, 1999, subject to the agreement of the London Stock
Exchange to list the new shares at that time. As a result, the number of
ordinary shares held at the close of business on Friday October 1 will double.
Holders of Ordinary shares with certificates will be issued with a new
certificate representing the total number of shares held following the
subdivision. The new certificates are expected to be despatched by October 11,
1999. Holders of ordinary shares in electronic form through CREST will have
their CREST accounts credited with the new shares at opening of business on
October 4, 1999.

At the same time as the subdivision is effected, holders of American
Depositary Shares (ADSs) will be issued with one additional ADS for each one
