BP AMOCO PLC 6 August 1999 BP AMOCO TO SELL CANADIAN OIL PROPERTIES FOR US$1.07 BILLION BP Amoco announced today it will sell its entire portfolio of conventional and heavy oil properties to Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL) and Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (Penn West) for US$1.07 billion. The sale represents approximately 60,000 barrels a day of oil equivalent production. The effective date of the sale is August 1, 1999, with closing expected around October 1, 1999. 'The sale is confirmation of the premium appeal of this suite of properties to the right buyer,' said James Dupree, president of BP Amoco's Canadian Oil Business Unit. 'It is an important step in the strategic reshaping of our worldwide portfolio and represents a major contribution to the US$10 billion target we have set for divestments over the next three years.' 'It is especially satisfying that these two companies recognise the contributions of the people involved in these properties,' said Dupree. 'Both CNRL and Penn West are very interested in offering employees an opportunity to continue their association with the operations.' Approximately 250 employees will be affected in Calgary and field locations. BP Amoco will provide severance benefits to employees who do not make the move to either Penn West or CNRL or who are not placed elsewhere in the BP Amoco organisation. BP Amoco offered the Canadian oil properties for sale in June 1999 after a strategic review of its worldwide properties. In Alberta, the properties include heavy oil operations in Bonnyville and Wabasca and conventional oil operations in Drayton Valley and Nipisi. They also include the Hoosier property in Saskatchewan. CNRL will acquire the Bonnyville, Wabasca and Nipisi assets; Penn West will acquire the Drayton Valley and Hoosier assets. BP Amoco will continue to have a strong presence in Canada as the largest producer of natural gas and as a producer and marketer of natural gas liquids and petrochemicals. BP Amoco is an international company involved in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas; refining, marketing, supply and transportation of hydrocarbons; and manufacturing and marketing of petrochemicals and solar power generation.
