                   Purchase of own shares

Bodycote International plc ('Bodycote') announces that on 13
October 2000, pursuant to the passing of the resolution at
the annual general meeting of the Company held on 17 May
2000, it purchased through Dresdner Kleinwort Benson,
700,000 ordinary shares of 10p each in Bodycote at 164 pence
per share.  The purchase represents approximately 0.27 per
cent of Bodycote's issued ordinary share capital.
