         Bodycote International plc ('the Company')
                   Purchase of own shares

Bodycote International plc ('Bodycote') announces that on 17
October 2000, pursuant to the passing of the resolution at
the annual general meeting of the Company held on 17 May
2000, it purchased 500,000 ordinary shares of 10p each in
Bodycote at 164 pence per share.  The purchase represents
approximately 0.193 per cent of Bodycote's issued ordinary
share capital.
