                            AGM STATEMENT - MAY 2004


The following is the text of the statement delivered by the Chairman, James
Wallace, at this year's Annual General Meeting.


Trading during the current year has continued to reflect the outlook we
described at the time of our preliminary results on 9th March and is in line
with market expectations.  We are now seeing some of the benefits from the
operational improvements that we have implemented.


The divestiture of the Wet Coatings division is proceeding as planned.
