Purchase of Own Shares

THE THROGMORTON TRUST PLC (the 'Company')

At the Annual General Meeting of the Company held on 25 February 2000
shareholders granted the Company authority to purchase up to 42,430,259
ordinary shares.  

The Company announces that on 19 September 2000 it repurchased 300,000
ordinary shares at a price of 102p per share.  15,773,250 ordinary shares have
been purchased to date under the above authority and the issued share capital
following cancellation of the shares repurchased will be 255,528,592 ordinary
shares.

Since 12 November 1999 when the Company first obtained powers to purchase its
own shares 48,271,250 shares have been repurchased.
