Following the authority granted to the company on 12 November 1999 to
repurchase up to 45,266,176 shares (being 14.9% of its then issued ordinary
share capital), the company announces that it has today repurchased a total of
4,675,000 ordinary shares at the prices specified below:
400,000 ordinary shares at 100.25p
4,275,000 ordinary shares at 100.50p
