                         OVERWHELMING VOTE TO CONTINUE
                                       
                                       
The Board announces that, at the Annual General Meeting of the Company which
took place on 11 May 2000, the resolution proposing the continuation of the
Company was approved with an overwhelming majority.

Commenting on the outcome of the vote, Mr Peter Burnell, Chairman, said:

'This  is  a  good  result.   We are pleased with this  endorsement  from  our
shareholders  which  reflects their enthusiasm for Latin America  in  general,
investment  trusts generally and F&C LAIT in particular.  We remain optimistic
on  the  prospects  for the region both during the current  year  and  looking
further ahead and believe that equities are currently attractively priced'.
