The shares were purchased at a price of 133p per share, not 133.3p per share as
previously stated.  All other details remain unchanged.

British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 26 April 2005 it purchased, for
cancellation, 22,000 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.05% of the issued
Ordinary capital), at a price of 133p per Ordinary Share

Settlement and cancellation of the purchased 22,000 Ordinary Shares is due on 29
April 2005 when the issued share capital of the Trust will fall to 46,226,502
Ordinary 1p Shares.
