British Portfolio Trust plc announces that on 11 December 2006 it purchased, for
cancellation, 15,700 Ordinary 1p Shares (representing 0.04% of the issued
Ordinary Capital), at a price of 177.0p per Ordinary Share.

Settlement of the purchased 15,700 Ordinary Shares is due on 14 December 2006.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the 15,700 Ordinary Shares, the total
number of Treasury shares held by the Company will be 3,500,000. The issued
share capital of the Company, less the total number of Ordinary Shares held in
Treasury, will be 40,672,274 Ordinary 1p Shares.
