BRITISH PORTFOLIO TRUST PLC

British Portfolio Trust plc announces the appointment of Jonathan Cartwright as a non-executive director of the Company with effect from 7th September 2010.    Mr Cartwright, a chartered accountant, is the former finance director of Caledonia Investments plc, having retired in 2009.   He joined Caledonia Investments plc, now one of the UK's largest investment trusts, in 1989, having previously held the role of financial controller at Hanson plc and qualifying as a chartered accountant with KPMG. 

In connection with this appointment the Company confirms that there are no details to be disclosed as otherwise required by Listing Rule 9.6.13R.
