Billington wins contract for Cafe Royal redevelopment

 

Billington Holdings plc, one of the UK's leading structural steel and engineering specialists, announces that it has been awarded the contract to provide the steelwork package at the Cafe Royal project in Piccadilly, London. The contract is worth £3.1 million and preliminary surveying is under way.

Mace Group, one of the world's most accomplished consultancy and construction firms, is the construction manager on this project worth approximately £70 million.  The project involves 1,200 tonnes of structural steel into the building strengthening, as well as replacing floors and tying new concrete cores back to the retained facades.

This will provide the building infrastructure as the site is being transformed into a five star luxury hotel. Once completed The Cafe Royal redevelopment will house 160 bedrooms, a spa, a restaurant and 16,000 sq ft of prime retail space, and will be open in time for the 2012 Olympics. The Cafe Royal is a Grade II listed building and much of the historic old structure is to be retained as part of the build.
