Billington invest in new machinery

Billington Holdings plc, one of the UK's leading structural steel and engineering specialists, has invested in a new combined Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) sawing, drilling and marking machine at their Yate facility near Bristol.  The CNC machine will improve on the efficiency and cost of delivery of projects, by producing steel 50% faster and three times as many heavy steel beams than the previous machine.

The new machine, which has an estimated market value of US$975,000, has recently been launched on the market by Peddinghaus Corporation and enables the drilling of structural steel sections using carbide tooling technology at much increased rates of throughput. To improve performance it employs a massive heavy duty frame and a superior clamping when drilling at extreme speeds and feeds. It has already been used in the production of large 1016 Universal Beams for Hammersmith Academy, London and is currently producing steel columns for the redevelopment of M&S stores.

The purchase of the machine is a long standing commitment to the Bristol works and ensures that structural steel will continue to be manufactured in the region. Kevin Campbell, Production Director stated,

"The installation and commissioning process has been the smoothest we have ever experienced and the machine is the most productive we have ever had, what more could they ask for?"

Steve Fareham Managing Director at Billington Holdings added,

"Billington see the machine as a cornerstone investment in the Bristol factory and the company as a whole. It will play a key role in our future competitiveness within the industry for many years to come. We are very pleased with the way the machine has settled in and increased productivity so quickly."
