                     Change in directors' responsibilities



Big Yellow Group Plc today announces that the Group Chief Executive, Nicholas
Vetch is taking a leave of absence from his executive responsibilities,
commencing in July of this year, returning in the early part of 2004.



In July the Group's Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director, James Gibson,
will replace Nicholas Vetch as Chief Executive.  On his return Nicholas Vetch
will be appointed Executive Chairman and the existing Chairman, David White will
take up the role of Deputy Chairman and Senior Non Executive Director.



James Gibson will continue to take responsibility for the operational management
of the Company assisted by Adrian Lee, with responsibility for strategy
remaining with Nicholas Vetch.



The Group has a well defined and clearly articulated strategy which has remained
broadly constant since its inception and the flotation in 2000.  The Directors
are committed to establishing Big Yellow as the premier self storage brand in
the UK and believe that the Group is well on track to achieving this.



The Group has for sometime now clearly expressed its views that the economic
environment is likely to become more challenging.  In the light of that, the
rate of expansion was slowed significantly some 15 months ago. Furthermore the
Group's finances are conservatively structured with relatively low indebtedness.
In the short term it is unlikely that the Board's view will change
significantly and therefore the strategy, financing and pace of expansion are
unlikely to alter materially.



Big Yellow's progress in the last 4 years has demonstrated that the business
model is a sound one.  When the time is deemed appropriate Big Yellow has both
the management and financial capacity to resume a more rapid expansion.  In the
meantime we will continue to add new stores to the portfolio when locations are
considered of strategic importance or on an opportunistic basis.
