TRAFFIC AND CAPACITY STATISTICS - April 2010

Summary of the headline figures

In April 2010 the operation was significantly impacted by the airspace closures in the UK and other parts of Europe following the volcanic activity in the Eyjafjallajoekull area of Iceland; this resulted in the equivalent of some six days of lost flying.  Passenger capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres, was down 20.9 per cent on April 2009.  Traffic, measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres, fell by 22.4 per cent.  This resulted in a passenger load factor decrease of 1.5 points versus last year, to 76.6 per cent.  Traffic comprised a 19.8 per cent decrease in premium traffic and a 22.9 per cent decrease in non-premium traffic.

Cargo, measured in Cargo Tonne Kilometres, fell by 11.0 per cent.

Market conditions

The underlying traffic volumes continue to show a positive trend, although challenges continue to affect the outlook.

Strategic Developments

British Airways and Iberia took a further step towards creating a new leading European airline group by signing their merger agreement.  The terms of the merger agreement are consistent with the binding memorandum of understanding signed between the two airlines in November 2009.  It will create a new holding company called International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, which will be known as International Airlines Group.  Both airlines will retain their current operations and operate under their individual brands.

British Airways announced that it will be the official airline of the England 2018 World Cup Bid.  The airline's goal is to support the bid campaign to bring the World Cup to England in 2018, drawing on the benefits of a world-class airport in Heathrow Terminal 5.

Sabre Travel Network and British Airways have signed a new three-year global distribution agreement, providing agencies and corporations around the world with continued access to the airline's full content and inventory via the Sabre global distribution system (GDS). Through this new agreement, Sabre-Connected agencies will continue to access all of British Airways' published fares and inventory including those sold through other direct and indirect channels.

BA will announce its annual results and host its annual Investor Day on May 21, 2010.  This event will be available as a webcast on www.bashares.com.
