New UK Licence awards

Providence Resources PLC 16 September 2004 Providence announces new UK Licence awards Providence Resources P.l.c. is pleased to announce that the UK Department of Trade and Industry has awarded Providence (through its UK 100% subsidiary) a 25% licence interest in four UK North Sea blocks in the 22nd Round of Offshore Licensing. These licences are located in blocks 210/20e, 210/24c, 210/25c and 9/ 9d and are operated by Midmar Energy Limited who hold a 55% interest. The other partner is Sosina Exploration Limited who hold a 20% interest. Blocks 210/20e, 210/24c and 210/25c, located in the Northern North Sea, contain identified prospectivity within two Jurassic reservoir targets. The blocks are located north-west of the Shell-operated Tern oil field with its associated infrastructure which has been in production since 1989. Block 9/9d, also located in the Northern North Sea, includes the 9/9d-17 well which was drilled in 1997 encountering an Upper Jurassic oil-bearing reservoir interval. This well is located between the Bruce and Beryl oil fields and the partners will study the possibility of an economic development and recovery of hydrocarbons from the 9/9d-17 well area. The initial term of the licences is for two years during which time the work programme will comprise of the review and reprocessing of existing subsurface data.
