Baring Emerging Europe Trust PLC

Charles Harman has today been appointed as a Director of The Baring Emerging
Europe Trust PLC ('BEET'). He joined Cazenove & Co Ltd as a Managing Director
in its corporate finance team in May of this year having previously been a
Managing Director of Credit Suisse First Boston's European investment banking
group. Prior to that his career had been in investment banking focusing on
central and Eastern Europe.

Commenting on the appointment, Sir William Ryrie, Chairman of BEET, said 'the
Board will be considerably strengthened by the addition of Charles Harman
with his experience and deep knowledge of Eastern Europe. We look forward
greatly to working with him'.

The Company has been advised that Mr Harman is not a director of any other
publicly quoted companies but that he was previously a director of Cofinec NV,
a Dutch company listed on the Luxembourg stock exchange.

There are no details required to be disclosed pursuant to paragraphs 6.F.2(b)
to (g) of the Listing Rules.
