Purchase of Own Securities

Baring Emerging Europe Trust PLC

The Baring Emerging Europe Trust plc has today purchased for cancellation
9,300,000 of its own shares at US$2.44 per share.  Following this purchase the
total number of ordinary shares in issue is 107,859,983.

The Board still has authority to purchase upto 7,359,784 ordinary shares for
cancellation.

Further, a notification has been received today from Laxey Partners Ltd
reporting that it no longer has a notifiable interest in the issued share
capital of The Baring Emerging Europe Trust PLC.
