This announcement replaces the Transaction in Own Shares announcement issued at
5.14 pm on Wednesday 5 September 2007 under RNS number 3759D. The original
announcement gave the number of shares purchased for cancellation as 5,555,000.
The number of shares purchased for cancellation should have been 5,550,000.


Barclays PLC (the 'Company') announces that on 5 September 2007 it purchased for
cancellation 5,550,000 Barclays ordinary shares at a price of 627.3657 pence
each. This purchase was carried out pursuant to the Buy Back Programme, details
of which were announced on 23 July and 2 August 2007. All shares purchased have
been cancelled.
