                                SHARE REPURCHASE


The issuer advises that the following replaces the repurchase of shares
announcement released today at 17.18 under RNS number 1547S.  The date should
read 27 February 2002 and not 25 February 2002 as previously stated.  All other
details remain unchanged and the full amended text appears below.

Barclays PLC announces that on 27 February 2002 it purchased for cancellation
200,000 of its ordinary shares at a price of 2083.79p per ordinary share.
