BOARD CHANGE

As announced in the 2008 Annual Report, Barclays PLC and Barclays Bank PLC confirm that Stephen Russell, non-executive Director, will retire from the Boards of Barclays with effect from 31 October 2009, having served for nine years.

Marcus Agius, Barclays Chairman, said today, "Steve has made an extremely valuable contribution to Barclays, particularly in his role as Chairman of the Board Audit Committee for six years to March 2009.  We will miss him greatly and wish him well for the future."
